What XEO does
What is XEO?
XEO checks how easy your website is for Google and for AI assistants (like ChatGPT) to find, understand, and recommend. It reads your live, public pages, gives your site a score out of 100, and then does something most tools don't: it writes the improvements for you, into copies of your files that you review and put live yourself.
Your live website is never touched. You stay in control of every change.
The readiness scan is free. Having XEO write the fixes into ready-to-publish copies of your files is part of a Pro subscription.
What do “SEO” and “GEO” mean?
SEO (search engine optimization) is making your site easy for Google and other search engines to find and rank — so you show up when people search.
GEO (generative engine optimization) is the newer half: making your site easy for AI assistants to read and quote — so when someone asks ChatGPT or a similar tool “who's the best plumber near me?” or “where can I buy this?”, you're part of the answer.
More and more people ask an AI instead of searching. If your site is hard for AI to read, you simply don't get mentioned. XEO covers both — that's the X.
What is the keyword & search-phrase research? (Growth plan)
On the Growth plan you connect your Google account (read-only) and XEO shows the actual phrases people type into Google to find your site — real numbers from Google, not guesses. It then points out:
- phrases you're almost ranking for — sitting just off page one — that a small wording change could lift,
- pages that show up a lot but rarely get clicked, which usually means a weak title or description,
- and gaps, where a page earns views for a phrase it doesn't actually mention.
XEO then tunes its fixes to those exact phrases, so your pages speak the words your customers are already using.
What are visitor insights? (Business plan)
The Business plan adds privacy-friendly visitor analytics. You add a one-line tracker to your pages — or upload your site and XEO adds it for you — and your report then shows how many people visit, new versus returning, your most-read pages, what they click, where they leave, and how far they scroll.
It records pages viewed, clicks, and scroll depth — and nothing else. No names, no form contents, no IP addresses; nothing that identifies a person. It's the proof that your rising score is bringing real traffic, not just a better number.

Your score
What is my score measured against?
A fixed checklist of published best practices — the specific things search engines and AI tools are known to look for on a page. It is the same checklist for every site, every time, so your score is fair, repeatable, and comparable from one check to the next.
Every page starts at 100 points. Each problem we find subtracts points based on how serious it is:
- Big problems (like a missing page title) cost the most points,
- medium problems (like a description that's too short) cost less,
- small suggestions cost only a little.
The score maps to a simple grade: 90+ is an A, 75+ a B, 60+ a C, and below that D or F. Your site's overall score is the average across all the pages we checked.
We do not compare you to competitors or guess at Google's secret formula — nobody outside Google has that. We measure the things that are publicly known to matter and that you can actually fix.
I uploaded more pages than the report shows — where did they go?
Some pages — an admin area, a member dashboard, anything that asks for a login — are invisible to Google and AI assistants. They can't sign in, so those pages have no search presence at all.
SEO and GEO are about your public site — the pages a customer (or Google) can actually reach. So when XEO notices a page isn't publicly reachable (it redirects visitors somewhere else — usually a login screen — or refuses to show anything without one), that page is left out of the exercise entirely: it isn't scored, isn't fixed, and doesn't appear in the report. It simply isn't part of what search engines see.
That's why the report's page count can be smaller than the number of files you uploaded.
What exactly do you check?
For search engines (the SEO half):
- Your page title — the headline in the browser tab and the blue link in Google. Is it there, and is it the right length?
- Your search-result description — the summary under your link in Google. A good one gets more clicks.
- Headings — does the page have one clear main heading so its outline makes sense?
- Image descriptions — short text descriptions of your pictures, used by Google and by screen readers.
- Your page's preferred web address — so slightly different addresses for the same page don't compete with each other.
- Social-media previews — the title, description, and image people see when your page is shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, or X.
- The mobile-friendly tag — the setting that tells browsers your page works on phones.
For AI assistants (the GEO half):
- Business info AI can read — a behind-the-scenes snippet stating who you are, in the format Google and AI assistants read, so they identify and quote you correctly.
- Clear, quotable wording — AI tools skip long, rambling paragraphs. We check whether your key facts are stated in short, direct sentences an AI can lift and repeat.
- Question-and-answer markup — if a page answers common questions, marking it up properly makes AI far more likely to use your answers.
- Text for your videos — AI can't watch video. If important information only lives in a video, we flag it so you can add a written version.
- An AI summary file (called llms.txt) — a small file that gives AI assistants a plain summary of your whole site. XEO writes it for you.
Does a score of 100 mean I'll be #1 on Google?
No — and you should be suspicious of anyone who promises that. Nobody outside Google controls rankings, and AI assistants don't publish how they pick their answers.
Think of the score like a home inspection: a clean report doesn't set your house's selling price, but unrepaired problems absolutely lower it. A score of 100 means we found nothing holding you back — every barrier we know how to detect has been removed, so search engines and AI tools can do their best with your site. A low score means there are specific, fixable things working against you right now.
The fixes
How does XEO fix the problems it finds?
After your free scan, a Pro subscription lets XEO look at your source files to find exactly what's causing each problem, then write the corrections into copies of those files. You get:
- the corrected copies, ready to download,
- a plain-English summary of every single change — nothing is hidden,
- and your projected new score once the fixes are live.
You review the changes and upload the files the way you normally update your site. Anything we couldn't safely do automatically is listed as a recommendation with a suggested wording, so it's your call.
Will XEO ever change my live website?
Never. XEO only reads your live site — it has no way to change it. All fixes go into copies, a backup of every original file is kept with each check, and you decide what goes live and when. If you ever change your mind, you simply don't upload.
This is the whole reason we built it this way — why we hand you copies instead of editing your live site →
What does the AI writing option do?
With the AI step on, XEO doesn't just point at a missing title or a weak description — it writes one for you, based on what your page is actually about. That covers page titles, search-result descriptions, image descriptions, the “who we are” business info, and clearer rewording of buried facts.
The AI writing is part of Pro, alongside the corrected files. On the free plan you still get the full score and the complete list of what to fix — you'd just write those texts yourself.
The security scan says I can fix something myself — what's the “Show me how” button?
Some security fixes don't touch your website's code at all — they're a setting at the company where you bought your web address, or a quick message to your hosting company. Those appear in the scan under “You can do these yourself.”
Click ✨ Show me how on any of them and XEO writes a step-by-step guide for your site specifically: it looks up which company manages your web address and your email, then gives you numbered steps for that company's actual screens — log in here, click this, paste that — with a Copy button for anything you need to paste. It also tells you how to check it worked.
Nothing in the guide can break your site: the steps only add protection, and if you'd rather not do them yourself, every guide ends with the option of handing the same steps to your hosting company's support.
Knowing it's working
How do I know I'm getting actual results?
Four ways, and none of them require trusting our word:
- A before-and-after score on every check. We score your live site as-is, apply the fixes to the copies, and re-score them — so the report says, for example, “you're a 64 today; these changes make you an 88.”
- An itemized list of every change. You can see exactly what was done and why, in plain English.
- Your progress chart. Every check is saved, so you see your score over time — proof the work stuck, not a one-off snapshot.
- Your visitor numbers. XEO's built-in visitor tracking shows how many people visit, which pages they read, and what they click — so you can see the score going up and the traffic following it.
What is the progress chart?
Every time you check a site, XEO records the score with the date. From your second check onward, your results page shows a chart of those scores side by side — green bars for good scores, amber and red for ones that need work.
That turns “trust us, it's better” into something you can see: 64 in March → 88 today. And if your score ever slips — say a site update accidentally removed something — the chart catches it so you can fix it before it costs you visitors.
What does visitor tracking record? Is it private?
It records pages viewed, links and buttons clicked, and how far people scroll — that's it. It does not record names, anything typed into forms, or IP addresses. Nothing that identifies a person is ever stored.
Your visitor report shows how many people came, how many are new versus returning, your most-read pages, what people click, and where they leave — the numbers that tell you whether your site is doing its job.
Practical questions
My site is built with React, Vue, or similar — can you still check it?
Yes. Some modern sites build their pages with JavaScript in the visitor's browser, which means a simple read sees only an empty shell. XEO detects this and offers to run each page's JavaScript first, exactly like a real browser, so the score reflects what visitors (and Google) actually see. It's a checkbox on the audit page.
How often should I run a check?
Run one whenever you change your site — new pages, a redesign, new content — to make sure nothing was knocked loose. Beyond that, a check about once a month keeps your progress chart honest and catches anything that drifted.
What happens to the files I upload?
They're used only to find and fix your issues. The corrected copies sit on our server just long enough for you to download them, then old runs are cleaned up automatically. We don't share your files, and we never publish or deploy anything on your behalf.
